{"id":561,"date":"2018-10-08T15:19:25","date_gmt":"2018-10-08T15:19:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.winterdesign.it\/?p=561"},"modified":"2019-12-24T21:53:51","modified_gmt":"2019-12-24T21:53:51","slug":"a-song-of-ice-and-fire-mith-symbols-and-concepts-design","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.winterdesign.it\/index.php\/2018\/10\/08\/a-song-of-ice-and-fire-mith-symbols-and-concepts-design\/","title":{"rendered":"A Song of Ice and Fire Mith, Symbols and Concepts Design"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>Symbolic Design\/Mithological Representation<\/h1>\n<p>Here are collected those illustrations of a more symbolic nature, not directly connected to some quote in the novels, but trying to express by means of design the underlying themes and concepts of the books.<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: purple;\">Melisandre and Night&#8217;s Queen<br \/>\nThe juxtaposition of Ice and Fire elemental forces<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Melisandre and Night&#8217;s Queen, representing the Ice and Fire duality.<\/p>\n<p>In this drawing Melisandre, together with King Stannis Baratheon and a Shadow Warrior stand juxtaposed to Night&#8217;s Queen with Night&#8217;s King and a White Walker.<\/p>\n<p>The female embodiments of Fire and Ice well represent the themes of the books: the kings give their seeds to these powerful women to create soldiers that will fight in the War for the Dawn on opposite fronts.<\/p>\n<p>But is this conflict absolute? Are Fire and Ice powers opposite to each other, engaged in a never ending struggle, or is there some connection in these elemental forces?<\/p>\n<p>I figured that from the color scheme might come reason to ponder:<\/p>\n<p>If on the Fire side we have fire colors, Melisandre&#8217;s reds, the orange, yellow, red and gold of the flames.<\/p>\n<p>But the king&#8217;s eyes are blue!&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>On the Ice side we have cold colors: the blue of the Others eyes, the white, grey and silver.<\/p>\n<p>But then I considered that Ghost&#8217;s eyes are red, like Weirwood&#8217;s, even if he&#8217;s of the North, on the Ice side of things.<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s why I figured that, even if on the Ice side, Night&#8217;s King&#8217;s eyes might be red, just ad Stannis&#8217;s eyes are blue!<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_564\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-564\" style=\"width: 900px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.winterdesign.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/Melisandre_NightsQueen_03.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-564\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winterdesign.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/Melisandre_NightsQueen_03.jpg\" alt=\"Melisandre and Night's Queen\" width=\"900\" height=\"1300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.winterdesign.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/Melisandre_NightsQueen_03.jpg 4000w, https:\/\/www.winterdesign.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/Melisandre_NightsQueen_03-208x300.jpg 208w, https:\/\/www.winterdesign.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/Melisandre_NightsQueen_03-768x1110.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.winterdesign.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/Melisandre_NightsQueen_03-709x1024.jpg 709w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-564\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Melisandre and Night&#8217;s Queen; with their respective kings and offspring<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h3><span style=\"color: purple;\">Weirwood and Shade of the Evening Trees<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>The Ice and Fire duality is well represented in the juxtaposition of the Weirwood and the Shade of the Evening tree.<\/p>\n<p>The color scheme is so poignant:<\/p>\n<p>White, red for the Weirwood; black and blue for the Shade of the Evening tree.<\/p>\n<p>Both types of trees have something to do with religion or magic, both trees sap is used for the preparation of a psychotropic drug, capable of opening the minds of the users, enabling them acces to supernatural forces and knowledge.<\/p>\n<p>I represented the trees before Ice and Fire backgrounds.<\/p>\n<p>How&#8217;s that for Knowledge Tree Myth?&#8230;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_565\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-565\" style=\"width: 900px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.winterdesign.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/Weirwood_Tree_ShadeoftheEvening_Tree_01.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-565\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winterdesign.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/Weirwood_Tree_ShadeoftheEvening_Tree_01.jpg\" alt=\"Weirwood and Shade of The Evening Trees\" width=\"900\" height=\"1721\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.winterdesign.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/Weirwood_Tree_ShadeoftheEvening_Tree_01.jpg 3312w, https:\/\/www.winterdesign.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/Weirwood_Tree_ShadeoftheEvening_Tree_01-157x300.jpg 157w, https:\/\/www.winterdesign.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/Weirwood_Tree_ShadeoftheEvening_Tree_01-768x1468.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.winterdesign.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/Weirwood_Tree_ShadeoftheEvening_Tree_01-536x1024.jpg 536w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-565\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Weirwood and Shade of The Evening Trees: Ice and Fire Juxtaposition<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h3><span style=\"color: purple;\">Crow and Dragon descending on the Iron Throne<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>I imagined the Great Hall of the Iron Throne, in the Red Keep.<\/p>\n<p>But, as seen in a dream, where the walls are there, but also the symbols might exist in the same space.<\/p>\n<p>We know that the crow, or raven, is being used as a metaphor for different characters in the books.<\/p>\n<p>We have Bloodraven (Lord Brynden Rivers), Bran Stark and King Euron Greyjoy.<\/p>\n<p>On the other hand we have the Dragon.<br \/>\nAnd for the purpose of this drawing I thought it might represent at least two characters: them being Queen Daenerys Targaryen and King Aegon Targaryen the Sixth (though many theorize Aegon might be a Balckfyre, more likely than the real son of Prince Rhaegar Targaryen).<\/p>\n<p>In this drawing I represent Crow and Dragon both descending on the Iron Throne.<\/p>\n<p>At this point in the books (the end of <i>A Dance with Dragons<\/i>) is more than likely that many of these characters would be really descending on the Iron Throne; trying to conquer the Seven Kingdoms, having some claim on the Iron Throne.
